Ring of Fire

Yesterday afternoon we loaded all our kidlets into the van, picked up a cousin and headed up to Ruby’s Inn/Bryce Canyon to view the Solar Eclipse. It was AMAZING!  Bryce Canyon has been holding its annual StarGazing Astronomy program so we were able to score cool Eclipse viewing glasses for everyone.  We took a picnic dinner and staked out our territory on the grass and waited for the celestial event.

February News

Grateful they are ok

Yes, Noah and Jonah rolled the go-kart.

Rules broken:

Noah let Jonah drive without being under direct adult supervision. (Jonah can’t reach the brake pedal very well).

Driving over hills too steep to effectively control the go-kart. (Roll cage has not been installed yet).

Rules obeyed:

Both boys were wearing their DOT approved full face helmets.

Both boys were wearing their seat belts.

Duztin assessing how best to bring the go-kart up from its landing spot 18 feet below the road.   He ended up towing it out with our van.  The go-kart needs some repair and a roll cage before anyone will be allowed to drive it.

Noah has a broken and fractured scapula and suspected fractures in 4 vertebrae, he is expected to make a full recovery and no longer needs pain meds.  He has learned a valuable lesson that will hopefully last a lifetime!

In other news:

Gideon is crawling!  We found him having a party under our bed!

Worth the wait!

Our newest addition has finally arrived.

Gideon Tahts’Uwahd Sorensen was born at home on 5 July 2011 at 12:45 a.m., weighing in at 7lb 14oz with a length of 20.75 inches. Gideon is completely adored by all his older siblings and parents. Although the “Stork” was obviously lost for 15 days past his “guess date” it was made up for in a completely un-anticipatedly short labor for which we (especially Sarah) are very grateful.

Another set of “Two little hands” at our house.

Getting all the stats, Duztin assisting our wonderful midwife Melody with the newborn exam.

We are so grateful that Gideon has joined our family.  Gideon will be blessed Sunday 4 September, 10 a.m. at the Henrieville Church, Please join us!

We are getting excited about our new baby coming this summer,

such a fun reason to sew!

First, some shirts for me!  Using the maternity shirt pattern from-

If our little one is a girl, I made these-

Back view of sleepers with ruffles, so cute!

Newborn Girl Gowns

If our little one is a boy, I made these-

I used the sleeper pattern from here-

I modified the pattern on some of the sleepers for size, some are newborn some are 3-6 mos.  Some are footed some are open.  So easy to sew.

I also made newborn girl pants/hat and 3-6mos. boy footed pants/hat-

I want to applique a onesie to match each set.

The footed pants pattern is found here-

the pants pattern is here-

I can’t remember where I found instructions for the baby gowns, I forgot to bookmark it.  I want to make some boy gowns as they are so handy the first few weeks.

Have a great day!

Square Foot Gardening

Garden boxes set and leveled, waiting for “Mel’s Mix”.

Joshua loves playing in the garden.

Plants set out.

Growing bigger and stronger.

Pumpkins on the left end, Potatoes in the center, double deep and Peas and Tomatoes in the right end.

All our plants are growing like crazy, Peppers (Hot and Sweet), Onions, Cabbage, Lettuce, Beets, Peas, Cucumbers, Broccoli, Kale, Spinach, Radishes, Kohlrabi, Carrots, Potatoes, Tomatoes, Sage, Basil, Spearmint, Peppermint and Flowers.

The compost bins in the back are almost finished, one more door and some paint and trim.  We will put sod around the boxes in a few weeks to cover up the clay soil and weeds there now.

Eva’s Banty chickens, Charlie used to chase them out of his corral, he now tolerates them pretty well.

Trying to give an Independence Day flair to the outside of the house, the siding needs to be replaced (with Adobe Brick this summer hopefully), the porch rebuilt and the satelite dish must come down!
